SAFETY
Sometimes the things that make a high-performance car are the same things that make it a safe car. A rigid platform. An advanced anti-lock braking system. A sure-footed, nimble-handling vehicle. An advanced airbag system. Eclipse Spyder is a unique vehicle that satisfies both your driving passions and your safety* needs.

Advanced Airbag System
Eclipse Spyder’s advanced front airbag safety system includes front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the driver and front seat passenger†. The result is a convertible that helps maximize occupant safety. It’s good to know that having the wind in your hair is safer than ever before.

Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)

The ABS technology used by the Lancer helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending wheel lock-up is sensed. The system “pulses” the brakes up to 10 times per second, modulating wheel rotation to help eliminate lock-up and maximize driver control.

Reinforced Chassis
The Eclipse Spyder platform is reinforced in key locations using high-strength steel. Additional cross members in the dash area and cabin floor help maintain cabin rigidity in the event of a side collision. The side sills are then reinforced, along with front and rear sub-frame components, which help minimize deformation due to an offset front impact.

ASC (Active Stability Control)
Eclipse Spyder GT’s power is managed by Mitsubishi’s high-tech ASC system. ASC comes standard with a V6 and modulates the throttle and brakes to ensure more sure-footed acceleration in a straight line, through a curve, and even on low-traction surfaces or in an emergency maneuver.

Seatbelts and Pretensioners
Every Mitsubishi is equipped with three-point seatbelts and head restraints, plus front seatbelt pretensioners that are designed to help tighten the belts in certain frontal impacts so the seatbelts can better do their job. Seatbelt force limiters that help the front seatbelts and airbags† work together optimally are also standard on every Spyder

Lower anchors in the Spyder rear seat help simplify the attachment of child safety seats; making it easier for you to help keep your child safe.

*Safety is a two-way street. It requires your attention and cooperation. Please remember to fasten your safety belt, sit well back in your seat and remain upright, properly adjust your head restraint, drive responsibly and obey all traffic laws.

† Airbags are part of a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). To decrease the risk of injury from a deploying airbag, always wear your seatbelt, sit upright in the middle of the seat and do not lean against the door. Always place children 12 and under in the rear seat and use appropriate child restraints. Never place a rear-facing infant restraint in the front seat. See your Owner’s Manual and instructions provided with your child restraint for additional information.
